Sleep Lab
The essential element in this study is to make the patient as comfortable as possible. Sensitive to that need, Coastal Medical has actually set up a bedroom with 'all of the comforts of home.'
A technician in the office administers and attends the sleep study (also called polysomnography). To prepare for this study, electrodes are attached to the patient's body to measure such things as brain electrical activity, rapid eye movement, respiration and airflow, muscle activity, blood oxygen level, heart rate and limb movement during sleep.
The results of this test are reviewed by the physician and used to diagnose disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and obstructive hypopnea.
